Without the wisdom embodied on a lot of web gurus sites, this site would not exist at all, much less validate XHTML strict! I really knew so little when I began this site, but I'm delighted to now have something that will work for me, insted of being continually painful to upgrade. If you do webdesign, and you haven't jumped on the XHTML/CSS bandwagon, it's worth it to learn. I don't wince when I think about updating my site anymore. Woo hoo!
Anyhow, I want to thank the following people for their various (and largely unknown) contributions to my understanding of XHTML/CSS and web standards. Anything ugly, quirky, stupid, etc. about my website is my own, and has nothing to do with these excellent folks.
Specific "Thanks!"
- Alessandro Fulciniti for Nifty Corners an awesome work of javascript/css magic to make corners round without images.
- Automatic Labs for the Enkoder, a cool javascript trick which obfuscates my email address from spambots while being "clickable" to my readers.
- Dave Shea from CSS Zen Garden for his handy CSS Sprites trick that I used for the navigation on the front page.
- Exploding Boy for his free css navigation design that I used throughout this site.
- Eric Myer for his Panelise web buttons that I have recoloured and use in the sidebar.
General "Thanks!"
The following is the list of sites that were the main resources for my education on how to build this site.
- A List Apart is the site that consistently inspires and educates me on design principles and standards while continually inspiring me as well.
- Web Design From Scratch is an extraordinary free guide to web design - not just XHTML/CSS, but aspects like copy writing, usability, and process. Highly recommended.
- HTML Dog and HTML.net are the kinds of resources that I find myself turning to when I just can't remember an element's attribute.
- Douglas Bowman from Stop Design just got hired by Google, and boy should we all be glad. This brilliant writer gives great tips of the trade, and has also been at the forefront in bringing CSS to the corporate world.
- Finally, W3 schools is an amazing place for a beginner to go and learn the tools of the trade, so you can focus on designing, and not coding.
Final "Thanks!"
Thanks to Paul my brother for the free web hosting, advice, etc.
